GROWTH CULTURE MEDIA SERIES 1: Pathological Evaluation of Soybeans Dextrose BROTH (SDB) for the Growth of Fungal Cultures.
A pathological evaluation was carried out on Soybeans Dextrose Broth for the growth and preservation of fungal cultures. Different fungi identified as Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium chrysogenum, Aspergillus terreus, Aspergillus glaucus, Fusarium oxysporium, and Rhizopus stolonifer were isolated in the laboratory using Standard Blotter Method. The organisms were inoculated into Soybeans Dextrose Broth, to screen its suitability for culturing fungi and pure cultures were made and maintained on it at 27 ±1oC and preserved in the refrigerator. There were beautiful growth appearances on the broth and the organisms covered the entire space in the 50mls conical flask they were grown in. Soybeans Dextrose Broth supported the growth of these fungi and they performed very well probably because it contains more vitamins and minerals vital to fungal growth.
