An overview of three dimensional face recognition
Face recognition has made great progress with good performance achieved under certain constrained condition. However, the method is still influenced by variations in illumination, facial pose and expression. The main reason is that the 2D image essentially a projection of the 3D object onto 2D space. With the development of science and technology , the acquisition, storage and computing of 3D data, in part, due to the inherent advantage, has become more and more easy and popular, which attracting more and more attention in recent years. 3D face recognition approaches categorized into four main groups, feature set based methods, frequency domain characteristics based methods, statistical characteristics based methods, information fusion. At last, this paper summaries the difficulties and challenges of three dimensional face recognition.
